Most often a Grandparent DNA Test is done to ensure a relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild, or to confirm paternity when the father of a child is not available.

In the case of paternity it is important to note that the grandparents must be on the fathers side of the family and they must also be directly related to the father (not a step-parent).

Many grandparents initiate this test because they are concerned that they might not be the actual biological grandparents of child/children.

They are concerned, and simply want to know the truth. Being a grandparent requires emotional and financial support for many years, and if there is a question about the paternity of a grandchild, the grandparents want to know for sure.

Reasons to confirm paternity include:

  • Health concerns
  • Death of potential father
  • Custody issues
  • Heritage and inheritance concerns
  • Questionable paternity of child
  • Peace of mind

Please keep in mind that the results from the Self Administered Grandparent DNA Test are not legally admissible. Only Grandparent DNA Tests conducted by a Rapid Results DNA + Drug Testing Collector maybe used in legal proceedings.
